Our Philosophy Statement

We believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is our desire as educators to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. There are three elements that we believe are conducive to establishing such an environment, (1) the teacher acting as a guide, (2) allowing the child's natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (3) promoting respect for all things and all people.

Information about Miss Grisel Diaz and Mrs. Elpidia Lopez

Miss Grisel Diaz

Ms. Diaz was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley.  She was taught in bilingual education; therefore, she is fluent in both English and in Spanish.  Her passion for teaching began early on.  In high school she chose to be a teacher’s assistant as her elective because she enjoyed helping her fellow students achieve their academic goals.

Ms. Diaz’s first job was with the Los Angeles Unified School District as a teacher’s assistant.  Simultaneously, while working with LAUSD, Grisel earned her Associates Degree from Los Angeles Pierce College in Liberal Arts.  Then she transferred to California State University, Northridge where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Liberal Studies.  Ms. Diaz earned her California Preliminary Multiple Subject Credential from Cal State Northridge in 2014.

Ms. Diaz has gained invaluable teaching experience through the numerous amounts of hours in the classroom as a teacher’s assistant and as an after school program supervisor.  She has worked with a wide range of students from kindergarten through 8th grade.  Through experience and education, she has gained the skills needed to effectively manage a classroom and she has learned the fundamentals of teaching. Ms. Diaz knows that teaching is a challenging career that brings forwards new struggles on a daily basis, but she loves teaching because she has experienced how rewarding it is to support children in their road towards success.

Mrs. Elpidia Lopez

Mrs. Lopez was born in Los Angeles but raised in the city of Canoga Park.  Mrs. Lopez is the first from her family to graduate from a University.  She earned her Associates Degree from Los Angeles Pierce College in Liberal Studies.  She then transferred to California State University, Northridge (CSUN) and graduated in 2012 where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Liberal Studies.  Mrs. Lopez earned her Preliminary Multiple Subject Credential from CSUN in 2015.

The thought of becoming a teacher was something that she always thought about, but Elpidia pursued a career as a Medical Assistant.  She enjoyed being able to help people and making them feel better when they felt scared or sick.  As the years passed, she felt that something was missing and one day she decided to go back to school and left her career as a Medical Assistant.  Her best friends were always talking about becoming teachers and the satisfaction that they would feel being able to help Elementary school students achieve their goals in the classroom.

While she was in school, Elpidia gained was a Teacher’s Assistant from October 2004 to November 2007.  During the first months of working as a Teacher Assistant, she worked with first graders, second graders, and fifth graders.  She gained a lot of knowledge and experience from being able to work with students from different age ranges.  But during the last months of her first year as a Teacher's assistant, Elpidia only worked with Kindergarten students.  She gained a lot of knowledge and strategies from the teachers that she worked with.  She also gained knowledge from the students in the classroom.  Some of the strategies that she gained from the teachers were classroom management, how to effectively guide and help struggling students, and how to organize her time.  Elpidia also worked as a program worker/supervisor for the before school program called Ready! Set! Go! from September 2006 to April 2007.

Elpidia also completed more than 100 hours of observation.  These hours and the experience she gained from being a Teacher’s Assistant confirmed her thoughts that she wanted to be a teacher.  She loved being able to help students achieve their goals.  Elpidia knows that being a teacher can be tough and overwhelming at times, but the price of seeing the expression on a child’s face when he/she first learns to read is priceless.
